Aleksei Shatunov was born in Tallinn, Estonia. He graduated from Estonian Art Academy with a degree in printmaking, restoration, and a master’s degree in Art Pedagogy. After studying for 7 years in Estonia, Aleksei spent two years at the prestigious Repin Russian Academy of Arts in St.Petersburg, in the studio of Valery Pimenov. He was also awarded a scholarship to study painting in Spain at the Politecnico de Valencia.

Aleksei Shatunov is a follower of modern academic school. The artist’s work covers a wide range of classical genres: narrative paintings, including mythological subjects, portrait, and symbolic still life and landscape. Through his art, Shatunov explores the relationship between man and nature, their unity and juxtaposition. The latter is often reflected in Aleksei’s phantasmagorical works.

In addition to his career in fine art, Aleksei works as a book illustrator. His paintings and drawings can be found in public and private collections throughout the world. Shatunov is also an instructor of drawing and painting, and has taught in many art institutions such as the Swedish Academy of Realist Art, Metchosin International Summer School of Arts (Canada B.C.); Red Deer’s College (Canada Alberta), and Estonain Academy of Arts Academical. Aleksei is a member of Estonian Artist Association, UNESCO Artists Association and Russian Artists Unions of Estonia.
